Advantages of a bad night's sleep.

There are some compensations for being up half the night and last night it was the chance to take some moonscapes.

Taken at 03:46, these shots of the waning moon quite clearly show its craters against the 'dark' sky.

The sky wasn't actually as dark as it looks in the photos, which  helped my camera to capture the image. When the sky is truly dark, all I get is an indistinct yellow ball, lacking any features.

There will be a technical term for all this but all I need to know is that for me and my little Canon SX620 HS camera, it works!
